This week we’re highlighting the South Carolina Cancer Alliance. Are they in your Givolio?
Since 2003 the South Carolina Cancer Alliance has focused on educating, detecting and improving the treatment of those affected by cancer. The Alliance offers several academies to help educate those with or affected by cancer. In 2015, 93.3% of their total expenses were dedicated to cancer research and education. This October the Alliance will discuss their five-year state-wide cancer plan.
The Alliance has raised over $250,000 in 2015, to fight cancer. All proceeds for the Alliance stays in South Carolina. The Alliance focuses on reducing the burden cancer brings to the people of South Carolina. The Alliance has made a strong impact in breast, prostate, colorectal and lung cancer education. Through their five-year plan they hope to create a strong roadmap to successfully bring an end to the pain cancer can cause, or to alleviate the burden it brings to people affected by it.
The Alliance is made up of over 800 members consisting of nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, South Carolina’s medical community and various community groups. Together they help fund and develop ways to help patients and families cope with cancer. Some of their events include workshops that help educate communities on cancer and training programs.
The Alliance focuses on public, private and professional education. In their workshops they hope to bring information to everyone involved in the cancer treatment process. These workshops can focus on understanding treatment, healthy lifestyle tips, how to help, survivorship care plans and implementing the objectives in their five-year cancer plan.
